Trouble with Knurling

Hi there

I am trying to put a straight knurl, about 30tpi, on a 30 degree angle on a stainless 303 part. Starting diameter is .500", ending diameter .625", and the knurling does not come out clean. I am using a 3/4" diameter x 1/4" wide knurl and try to cut with the front section of the knurl only to avoid cross-over. Any advice out there?

Thanks
