Power Outage Damage

Thank author of this post/commentWhen the power goes out from a storm or something, when machines come on-line sometimes we have electronic problems, with spindle drives and power supplies, anybody have similar problems and any solutions or precautions we can take when this happens….Thanks

Thank author of this post/comment"Power Outage"

I have seen electronic damage that seemed to occur during a power outage. Acutally it may have occurred at about the same time as the power outage. You mention 'storms'. When lightning strikes the power system, it is designed to automatically trip off momentarily and then restore power. I believe it is more likely that energy from the same nearby lightning strike that caused the interruption also came into the shop. And it is also likely that the energy (surge) did damage due to improper grounding scheme. Always beware of multiple isolated ground rods in a building; it is an invitation to lightning related damage.
