Fadal VMC 3020 Advice

star123 (220.226.172.202) -

First post here on your great forum.

I run a small shop, and now I am thinking about getting a machiningcenter.

I have found a used machine that I find interesting, but I have no experience with it.

Anny of you want to say some words about it?

It is a 2001 Fadal MVC 3020, with Fadal CNC 32 MP control.

It has runned 1000 hours.

VERY GOOD MACHINE. WE HAVE 4 VMC 3020S IN OUR SHOP. VERY USER FRIENDLY. YOU WILL FIND THE 32MP CONTROL IS OVER KILL IF PROGRAM WITH ANY KIND OF OFF LINE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT USED THE PROGRAMING SIDE OF MY VMC 6040 WITH 32MP CONTROLER FOR FOUR YEARS NOW. YOU SHOULD NOT GET HURT WITH LOW AMOUNT OF HOURS ON THIS MACHINE.

Just remember, the work offsets are E1 thru E99 (mabe more). The machine is capable of doing some very nice work! How ever, I used to run a 4020 that had all the options. When ever I wanted to inperpelate a corner radius at a high feed rate, (.045 rad about 60 ipm) it would not make a nice true radius. I had to slow the feed with what i think was a g8 code.? I used the thru spindle coolant with a mitsubishi carbide thru cool drill 1/4 dia, 7" long. I drilled at 2000 rpm and fed at 14 ipm, 6.5" dp ONE PECK IN 316 SS! (not 316L)

I think you made a wise decision on getting a fadal. If you have the manuals, they are very useful. If you dont, call Flint Machine Tools in georga. Im sure Barry will be willing to help you. I just bought a new 4020.

I started looking for a new machining center today. I would like a Fadal4525 or Haas 4026. I'm afraid the haas is too light duty for steels. Any comments
