X axis lost in the middle of a program and went to limit through my part

Ernie Jergens (12.102.162.23) -

I have a 1991 Fadal 2040 with the 88 control. In the middle of a large program that I was feeding the machine with my DNC the machine took off on the X axis through my part and stopped at the X limit. The message on the machine read X axis as follows: Axis controller does not respond to NC
This happened once about four month ago but I had no other problem like this until today.
If anyone has a good corrective action I would really appreciate your help.
