When does one use a CNC setup sheet? I have not a single idea as for what purpose this may be used.

"pictures and tooling"

Setup sheets are good for pretty much any part but are more typical to low volume 1 on type parts that very rarely come through the shop. A typical setup sheet will usually include a tool list of all the required tools needed to do the job (drills, endmills, reamers, etc). It will also include pictures of how the setup on the machine was done. Position of the part and specific clamps for each operation. This can significantly reduce the (how did we do this last time) dwell.

On complex parts and setups it can take unbelievable amounts of time to prove out programs, tooling, setup styles etc through trial and error. Now if that part is only run once a year and maybe now a different operator the setup sheets come in very handy. The old saying of don’t reinvent the wheel.
