Turning threads on Mazak

We just got our used Mazak QT-15 with T-32 control up and running and are working the bugs out. The latest problem is thread turning. It occasionally makes a great thread, but most of the time, in the midst of threading it gets out of time with the thread and cuts the partially made thread in half. I stopped it after each pass to take a look at what it was doing and this is what I found. 1st pass: good, 2nd: good, 3rd: good, 4th: cut existing thread in half. 5th through 7th: right in line with first 3, 8th took it's own random path again. Any ideas what the problem might be, thanks a lot.

Look on top of the spindle (take rear cover off) you will see an encoder and toothed belt. Things that cause your problem are:-

belt too loose

belt dameaged

faulty encoder

This encoder is ONLY used for timing when cutting threads

Hope that helps

Stupid question here!! how do you enter the thread pitch on a mazak QT-10 with mazatrol?? There doesnt appear to be a block that asks for the pitch and the manual sucks!! Thank you
