Dnc link

Thank author of this post/commentWe too have a meldas 500 series control and are having problems with the dnc link. it will send and recieve small files with the xon xoff setting but to use dnc it runs best set on rts.

we use even parity, 2 stop bits but are still having problems.

it will drip feed for a while, u can see it reading about 15 lines at a time then requesting more from the pc, the pc sends another 15 blocks. all looks good. it can keep this up for abotu 5mins running really smooth the the pc does not send any more, it is waiting for the signal and the nc errors out with a tape read error, why can it work correct for so long then stop?

Some RS-232 errors when transfering large files with newer faster PC's have been corrected by setting the PC com port for more relialabilty then speed in control panel. Find the com port, click the advanced button, move the slider left for more relialablity. In rare cases a PCI card with coms ports is needed even on brand new good working PC's with on board com ports. 95% of the time the PC is the culprit. Unless the control was spiked with over voltage I have seen very few com port failures on mits controls. Dan

Thank author of this post/commentMike,

I agree with Dan. If you are using opto-isolator in between, I have seen some Opto-Isolator do not respond at higher baud rate. Another probable reason could be length of cable & shield connection. The shield wire to be connected to pin 7 (Ground) at CNC side. It helps in reducing the electrical noise.
